What is tracked when you visit
This site uses Google Analytics 4 to understand, in aggregate, whether the writing is reaching readers. What that means in plain language:
The numbers I see are aggregate counts — how many people visited a page on a given day, which page they arrived on, what country they came from, whether they downloaded the formal submission PDF, whether they clicked through to the public-consultation portal at EngageMB.ca. I do not see who you are, your name, your email address, or your exact location. Google Analytics sets a cookie in your browser to count returning visits as the same person rather than two separate people; that cookie does not contain identifying information.
I do not sell, share, or transfer any of this information to any third party other than Google itself, which provides the analytics service. Google's own data-handling practices are documented at policies.google.com/privacy.
How to opt out
If you would rather not be counted, you have three straightforward options.
First, you can install the official Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on, which blocks the analytics script in all browsers on your device.
Second, you can use your browser's private browsing or incognito mode, which prevents most analytics cookies from being stored between sessions.
Third, you can use a browser like Brave, Safari, or Firefox with tracking protection enabled, all of which block the Google Analytics script by default.
None of these options will affect your ability to read the site, download the submission, or contact me.
What is not on this site
There are no advertisements. There is no advertising network. There is no email signup form that quietly enrols you in a list. There is no commercial relationship with any organization linked from this site. The Substack subscription, if you choose to take it, is a separate transaction between you and Substack, governed by Substack's terms.
